The name and the building

A light by the water

Before the locks and weirs went in, foggy lanterns were the navigation lights that helped riverboats find their way along the Murray. We liked the idea of a light by the river that people head for.

The building has been here since the 1990s. Damien O'Riley was one of three young locals who built it as Riverscape, and the O'Riley family ran it for its first twenty years. The jarrah floor is a century old and came from Tailem Bend.

Damien's back, this time with his brother Peter and their business partner James Jasiunas. The family that built this place has come home to it.

Damien and Peter O'Riley stand smiling in the doorway of the building, each holding up an old hurricane lantern.
